Job Description

Job Title: Delivery Operative – Bike Instructor/Buddy

Main Purpose of Job:
The Delivery Operative – Bike Instructor/Buddy will primarily act as the public face of the company. Responsible for the preparation and delivery of mail to business and residential addresses ensuring the security and integrity of the mail items and achievement of service expectations within the geographical areas and timescales defined by the company. In addition this role will involve providing Bike Training and Assessment for small groups of new recruits joining the company as and when required.

Main Responsibilities:
Delivery of Mail
 Provide a high quality addressed mail service to our customers through timely and accurate delivery of mail to business and residential addresses according to a specified route and within set targets.
 Recording mail delivery using company scanning equipment and administrative processes to ensure accurate recording and reporting of mail status, on route and in the delivery unit.
 Identifying and communicating appropriately any risks or special instructions on home and support rounds e.g. properties with dogs, access issues to driveways or mail boxes etc.
 Learning the delivery round(s), identifying and communicating any improvements that can be made to improve performance on the round.
 Identifying and documenting access methods for multi-occupancy buildings. Responsible for security of keys to access multi occupancy buildings whilst out on a delivery route.
 Adhering to processes ensuring company equipment is kept in good working order and correctly secured at all times.
Customer Service
 Act in a professional and courteous manner when dealing with both internal and external customers
 Recording and reporting customer feedback appropriately for escalation to Team Leader and other parts of the business as necessary
Round Preparation
 Prepare the delivery round (home & support), in line with company processes and procedures
 Meet the set targets for the preparation of mail and duration of activity in the delivery unit.
Health, Safety and Security
 Responsible for adherence with all Health and Safety policies defined by the company
 Responsible for ensuring compliance with the Mail Integrity Code of Practice or any policy associated with the code
 Adhere to work schedules
Housekeeping at the delivery unit
• Responsible for the security, cleanliness and maintenance of company equipment. Reporting any issues for technical repair according to company processes and procedures.
• Maintain a clean and tidy work environment at the Delivery Unit.
Administration and Reporting
 Undertake basic administration to record activities and report against key performance indicators (KPIs)
 Deal appropriately with non-deliverable and returned mail according to company processes and procedures

Bike Instructor (ad hoc duties as per individual responsibilities)
• Provide practical off – and on-road cycle instruction and assessment for new staff to ensure all staff are able to demonstrate a minimum of Level 2 National Bikeability Standards. Instructor training will be provided and accredited by an external body.
• Manage and administer local bike training sessions designing routes, undertaking risk assessments, recording and reporting recruits achievements.
• Providing constructive feedback to all trainees in a positive manner and supporting ongoing development of cycling skills for staff.

Buddy – On-Site Trainer and Coach (ad hoc duties are per individual responsibilities)
• Provide on-the job training and coaching for staff in the Delivery Units to ensure all staff work consistently to company processes and procedures. Primarily this will involve working with small groups of staff to training on:
o Preparation of mail prior to delivery
o Use of scanners and equipment in the unit and whilst out on the round
o Accompanying new recruits on first shifts to support induction and reinforce training
• Support Team Leader/Assistant Team Leader in briefing and training on new systems and processes as they are introduced or to support performance improvement.

Qualifications (General qualifications & Professional ):

Miscellaneous (e.g. shift work, requirement to drive, travel etc):
 Flexible to cover additional or alternative rounds as and when requested
 Full and comprehensive work history for up-to 3 years with no gap (where appropriate)
 Basic Criminal Record Bureau (CRB) disclosure will be required for all posts
 Must be available to work full time (8.30-6.00 5 days across Mon-Sat) for the whole period of 2 September -23rd October 2013.
 Bike Instructors must be available and will need to successfully complete a 4-day initial Instructor training programme which will run between 19-23 August 2013.
