Postal Service Recruitment ‘Operation Dynamite’ – briefing note and timeline‏

A large national postal company has started a recruitment campaign across Manchester, Salford and Trafford and has tasked various providers in the area to fill about 900 vacancies.

The following providers have been asked to recruit for the vacancies:

Avanta: 300
Work Solutions: 150
Remploy: 50
JCP for GI (Temp to perm agency): 400 (these candidates will have an initial interview carried out by GI and a main interview conducted by the employing company, successful candidates will be employed by GI in the first instance for an initial three months)

In order for candidates to be successful, they have to be bicycle-proficient at level 2 with strong customer service skills, literacy, numeracy and a degree of map-reading.

Successful candidates will be issued with 0 hours contract, with a minimum requirement of 5 hours p/w. The majority of current workers are doing 30 hour contracts but they have reduced shift patterns for those that have other commitments.

All employees can work flexi hours but must be able to start their shifts in the morning.
Delivery times are incentivised by pay to encourage people to improve

All candidates must go through the following induction process:

• Initial face to face interview with a recruitment team member, a short interview to have a brief chat about the job and complete necessary documentation,
• a 2.5 hour online test, to demonstrate their ability to learn, understand and interpret. This is not a timed test and individuals are able to complete the test in whatever fashion they choose to suit their learning ability.
• CRB check and reference checking for 3 years, this can be supplied by the JCP of JSA dates accompanied by a personal reference. It should be noted that the company has a track record of recruiting candidates with an offending history, provided this has been disclosed and does not impact on carrying out postal; delivery duties
• Cycle training will be provided by the company’s own accredited trainers and Bike Right. However the bulk of individuals that join the team will go through the company’s training. Those who will receive Pre-Employment Training (PET) with Work Solutions S will receive an additional 6 hours support on the bikes through TfGM.

The location of local depots will determine geographical spread of candidates; the current location of the depot is as follows, although this might still be subject to change: City Centre, Fallowfield, Stretford and Urmston, Urmston, Agecroft, Blackley, Openshaw, Wythenshawe, Partington
