Over 65′s

The group do a range of activities, for different abilities as many have health problems and need to do very gentle exercise. We inform the group about healthy eating with our Health Kitchen programme and prevention of illnesses through exercise and motivation. We invite many health professionals to advise the group.

Gentle Exercise

The group take part in the get walking programme, where they walk through Hulme Park and back again to our centre.

The group also do armchair exercises, and gentle exercises in the mornings to help them to start the day positively.

Gardening Club

The group will also be starting a gardening club very shortly where they will attend a gardening centre in the Hulme area which will be a tranquil place where they can visit. They will be learning about potting and planting, learning about plants and flowers and there is a pond at the garden centre with benches which I feel is very therapeutic for the group and a nice place to be.

Getting to Grips with Computers

We are an official centre for a government initiative encouraging people to get online (use the internet). This initiative is free and teaches basic beginner and intermediate levels of computer training. Using the internet is a fantastic way to increase social mobility and to connect to the world in cheap and exciting ways. Visit myguide.gov.uk to access the course yourself or come down to the centre and we can help you get started and guide you every step of the way. We visit community centres helping the older generation with computer literacy…  we also provide some great food.

We also encourage people to come to our centre to use our computer facilities if they have not got their own or need technical assistance.

Members of a Sheltered Accommodation Scheme in Whalley Range are getting to grips with computers on a 5 week course held every Wednesday for 2 hours from 12:00 till 14:00.

Financial/Welfare Support

As well as all this, we support the group with Welfare and Financial issues they might be facing. We give group members advice and support, we work very closely with Age Concern who support us with an adviser who visits our centre to advise our group. We also do an advocacy service for the group.
