Our Mission

Supporting the Unemployed

We support unemployed people in order for them to get back into employment, we do a back to work programme with the support of Adult Education, we support people with Application form writing, interview skills, letter writing to employers,  we also do confidence building and motivation skills. As well as these we have links with the City Council to get client’s into jobs within the City Council, these can  be jobs like Clerical Admin, Catering, Cleaning, Classroom Assistants, and Support Workers working with people with learning disabilities. We also work very closely with Job Centre plus who send us clients city wide. We also have regular job details sent via bulletins daily to our Centre from the job Centre, where people can look at, and job search.

Over 65s

We support older Community members 65 plus to be more active through exercise and social inclusion with others

The group do a range of activities, for different abilities as many have health problems and need to do very gentle exercise. They are on the get walking programme, where they walk through Hulme Park and back again to our centre, the group will also be starting a gardening club very shortly where they will attend a gardening centre in the Hulme area which will be a tranquil place where they can visit. They will be learning about potting and planting, learning about plants and flowers and there is a pond at the garden centre with benches which I feel is very therapeutic for the group and a nice place to be. The group also do armchair exercises, and gentle exercises in the mornings to help them to start the day positively. We inform the group about healthy eating and prevention of illnesses through exercise and motivation. We invite many health professionals to advise the group.

Welfare and Financial

As well as all this, we support the group with Welfare and Financial issues they might be facing. We give group members advice and support, we work very closely with Age Concern who support us with an adviser who visits our centre to advise our group. We also do an advocacy service for the group.

We also help get the older generation online using computers.

Furthermore we provide a healthy kitchen 2 days per week where we provide the group with healthy and nutritious soups and hot tasty meals which offers the group the opportunity to get their 5 fruit and veg a day.

Homework Club

We provide youth development through our homework club that is currently being held at the weekend. A qualified teacher helps with homework and teaches extra skills in key subjects Maths, English and Science. This is available to children of a wide range, pleasecontact us if you would like your child to benefit from this service.

Future Plans and Developments

We are starting an ESOL (English for speakers of other languages) Class for people whose first language is not English. This will be provided one day a week.

We are also planning to set up a youth club for Somali Youths to help prevent them going down the wrong path in life, by starting a boxing club and other activities, which we are hoping then to link with employment and training and gaining qualifications.

We are hoping that the Centre will be a vibrant place that caters for all types of people, to help find themselves and give them what they are looking for in life.
